A defense of Trump and his supporters

Zachary Hagen

I’m tired of politics. I’m tired of hearing about how racist and unloving people who support Trump are. I’m tired of people assuming Democrats are the only ones that care about people. It’s unfair, and it has to stop.

I’m not going to lie and pretend I support the idea of building the wall, but I do understand why some people want it built. For the most part, people want it because they believe illegal immigration is a problem, and it is. Every president, even your beloved Obama, talked about being tougher on the borders. Obama actually made the border between us and Mexico the most militarized border between any two nations at peace. Illegal immigration is a problem, and everyone knows this.

Yeah, racism is still a problem, and some people may be motivated by that, but assuming that everyone who wants to protect our laws is a racist is rude at best and obstructionist at worst.

We can be loving without also ignoring that laws and regulations exist for a reason. Protecting immigration is not about hurting people, it’s about protecting a nation and its tax base.

Please, Christian Democrats, leave people who disagree with you alone unless you can be kind. Same goes to you, Christian Republicans. We need to learn to disagree and realize that it isn’t a personal attack if someone disagrees.

I understand why Trump upsets people. He’s blunt and rude and hard to listen to, but he’s not as bad as people make it out to be. No one had a problem with him when he was on Shark Tank, so don’t invent problems that don’t exist. Ride it out and look for the good. We elected him even if we didn’t vote for him. Let’s try to be more respectful and loving. That’s what Christianity is.
