People have been wanting to know for a while how I got my waves. For the longest time I’ve always had longer curly hair, but a little over a year ago, I decided to cut my hair to turn over a new leaf. But when I cut my hair, I didn’t want to people thinking that “Stanley steamer the carpet cleaner” was my barber, so I decided to get waves. So I’m going to let you guys in on the wave method, free of charge!
Now, first thing first: make sure you purchase three brushes. You want to have a soft brush, a medium brush and a hard brush. The soft brush is for when your hair is short, the medium is for when your hair is medium length and the hard brush is for when your hair is in the “wolfing” stage and is longer than usual.
The second object you want to make sure you have is a durag. The Durag is your best friend. You must sleep with the durag every night after brushing your hair. Excuses will not be tolerated! If you want to have silky hair, then sleep with the durag. If you want to have hair that looks like carpet, then don’t sleep with it. The choice is yours! But remember, a durag does not give you waves; brushing does. Make sure you are brushing at least 30 minutes a day. Products can be used in your hair but they are not necessary. You can get waves with just brushing and putting water in your hair, but if you do want to use products, stick to all-natural products like Cantu and Shea Moisture.
Wolfing is extremely important if you want to see growth in your waves. If you cut your hair every week or every other week, you will cut off much of your progress. When you are beginning your wave method, you want to at least grow your hair out for four weeks before cutting it.
Some of you might say, “but what if I don’t want my hairline looking like the Nike symbol?” No need to fear! You can always get lineups. Just make sure you don’t get a haircut for four weeks.
Last but not least, make sure you comb your hair every night before brushing it. Combing will help with the depth of your waves. That’s it! If you follow these tips, you will have people drowning in your waves in no time!
