Southern Adventist University has decided to extend the cancelation of distance learning classes through April 15 citing concerns about continued internet and power outages in the Collegedale area and the current unreliability of eClass and other web services due to damage to local infrastructure.

Original story:
Classes at Southern Adventist University have been canceled for today, April 13, "due to widespread power and internet outages in the Collegedale area", according to an email from Isaac James, director of Marketing and University Relations.
A severe storm and likely tornado caused miles of damage in Collegedale and the surrounding areas Sunday night.
According to Campus Safety, while there are a few trees down and scattered debris, there has been no reported structural damage to Southern’s campus.
An email to employees states that while the campus’s main internet connection is down and most buildings do not have power, Wright Hall has generator power and Wi-Fi. Web, email and phone services are also operational.
While the majority of students are off campus and away from the area because of COVID-19 concerns, many professors, staff members and students who could not return home remain local.
Currently, as many as 60,000 Electric Power Board (EPB) customers are without power, according to the electricity provider’s Twitter post. Complete restoration is slated to take several days.
With downed power lines, trees and debris, county officials are urging local residents to stay inside if at all possible, as “several roads are closed, impassable and/or dangerous,” reads a statement from the Hamilton County Police Department.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press has reported at least 20 hospitalizations and 150 buildings damaged throughout the area.
This is a developing story.
