The New England Patriots, dubbed America’s worst nightmare, continued their reign of terror that has lasted for the past 17 years. They beat the LA Rams by a score of 13-3 (their biggest margin in a SB, it was 8 before).
Seventeen years before, a twenty-four year old Brady had won his first super bowl against the Rams. Nine Super Bowl trips for Belichick and Brady, six rings, and three heartbreaking losses later, here we are.
Tom Brady did not need to win to prove that he is the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT). That was a given before the Super Bowl, but his sixth ring is a reminder that he might be 41, but he’s not done.
The game, however, was one that can be be easily forgotten because it was a battle of defenses and the struggle of offenses. It was the lowest scoring Super Bowl in history. By the beginning of the 4th quarter, there still hadn’t been any TDs and the score was tied at 3-3.
It was not the prettiest game for two high powered offenses that usually tear up the score (Rams averaged 32.9 points a game during the regular season and the Patriots averaged 27.3).
The Patriots past SB wins have always been very exciting but this win reminds us that, no matter how it happens, they are always determined to win.
The MVP was Julian Edelman, who caught 10 of 12 passes, and went off for 141 yards. Julian passed Michael Irvin and moved into second place in all-time receiving yards behind Jerry Rice.
If you love the Patriots like I do, congratulations. If you hate them, I’m sorry, but they are still here and will continue until one day they decide that winning is not that fun anymore.
