Midwinter party review

Zach Roberts

On Saturday, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m., students filed into the Iles P.E. Center for the annual Midwinter Party. The theme was “A Kingdom Divided,” and many attendees dressed as heroes or villains associated with Disney and all of their companies such as Big Hero 6, Eeyore, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Russell from Up, The Mad Hatter, Kylo Ren and Cruella De Vil with the latter two taking home $100 Amazon gift cards for the costume contest.

There was a bouncy house, Twister, games of knockout, a cotton candy stand and a popcorn stand. There were opportunities for students to take pictures in front of the Disney background or on a chair with balloons to represent Disney’s Up.

There were Disney movie-themed snacks for both heroes and villains. For the heroes there were Core Memories from “Inside Out,” Miguel’s Churros from “Coco,” The Purple Heart Shaped Herb from “Black Panther,” Tigger Tails from “Winnie the Pooh,” Luigi’s Tower of Donuts from “Cars” and Cinderella’s Carriage Wheels. For the villains, the snacks included Olaf’s noses from “Frozen,” Evil Queen’s Punch from “Snow White,” Elsa’s icicles from “Frozen” and Poison Apples from “Snow White.”

Students were also given the opportunity to win prizes by playing “Guess that Song.” Prizes included additional Amazon gift cards, Lego sets and a Nintendo Switch, won by senior graphic design major Bruno Benna.

Rebeca Andrade “[I liked] the creative Disney themes for the snacks, that was very creative.”

Jillian Mounce “[I first noticed] the excellent music choice. I love Disney songs.”

Daedre-Ann Marsden “As soon as I walked in, I heard a familiar song (That’s So Raven theme song) and it immediately just took me back.”

Arielle Belgrave “More games would have been nice.”
