New beginnings aren't limited to New Year's Day

Brittny Desvarieux

Every year, January arrives with the gift and promise of a new beginning. Across the country, people are inspired and motivated to set new goals in hopes that it will motivate positive change in their own personal lives. We embrace this promise of a fresh start and cling to it dearly. It helps us find the courage to let go of the past and move on into the future with high hopes and positivity.

But, in the midst of all the list-making of new goals we strive to achieve in the New Year, it is important to remember that new beginnings are not limited to New Year’s Day. Lamentations 3:22-23 says that God’s mercies are new every morning. God’s promise of a new beginning is within reach at all times. He reminds us of this daily by placing this message within the language of the universe. The universe faithfully echoes the promise of new beginnings. For every day that the sun sets and rises the next morning, God is reminding us that we can let go of the past because a new future is always waiting for us below the horizon.

Jan. 1st may come once a year, but thankfully as Christians, we don’t have to wait around for another 365 days for a fresh start. Every morning begins in a clean slate with God, and He is yearning to write a new story for your life all over it. Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
