Southern’s Smiths has reached out to Homes and Haven to assist them with their mission of helping “women in crisis create a haven in their own home that inspired them to heal, rebuild, and find joy.”
Since their goal is to create therapeutic and healing spaces within their own home, the club is planning on helping to provide different items such as rustic looking decorations or other projects.
Some of the items that the club is planning on making are coat racks, dinner bells, fire tending tools, and barbeque tools. One item in particular that the club thinks could be beneficial would be the creation of crosses. Steel crosses are simple to make, yet can be minimalistic or intricately designed, all depending on the blacksmith.
The club hopes to partner with Homes and Haven for several years by providing them different items that could be useful. Something that Homes and Havens has shown interest in is the creation of steel framed tables. As this is a more complicated process, the club is looking into ways that club members of all levels of blacksmithing would be able to participate.
President Samir Khalil said, “I am very excited to partner up with this organization that makes such a difference in the lives of women in recovery and to be able to make a difference with the skills and love of blacksmithing.”
