The 2018-19 NBA season has been going on for two weeks now, and like always, there have been expectations unfulfilled and impressive performances that no one saw coming. Southern students voiced their opinions on what they thought was the biggest surprise of the season so far.
“The biggest surprise for me is that LeBron James is doing terrible in LA. Everyone was so pumped about the collaboration, but he and the Lakers just aren’t quite delivering. They’ve played decently, but they’ve lost most of their games so far.”
-Dallas Carr, senior, allied health
“I think the biggest surprise of the season so far is the amount of offense that is being played. There’s so many fouls being called now that teams aren’t even playing defense. It’s crazy because it’s resulting in final scores of 140-130 that seem like they should be reserved for the all star game.”
-Jake Tsai, junior, biology
“What’s the biggest surprise of the the NBA season so far? The LA Lakers. How is it possible? LeBron is not pulling through."
- Adam Voilquin, sophomore, marketing
"The biggest surprise to me is OKC [Thunder] starting 0-4. I wouldn't expect them to be winless after being a strong playoff team last year."
-Chadwick Hulin, sophomore, nursing
“The biggest surprise for me is Blake Griffin’s 50 point game.”
-Alex Peppard, sophomore, nursing
“The biggest surprise for me was the opening game for the Trail Blazers and Lakers. Many anticipated the Lakers to dominate due to their recent recruits of Lebron James, Lance Stephenson, and Rajon Rondo. However, the Trail Blazers caused an upset by winning the game, 128-119.”
-Amber Lee, junior, chemistry
“I think one of the biggest surprises for me this season was how dominant the Nuggets have been in their defense. If you had told me last year that they would be the only team to hold every opponent to double digits so far including the Warriors, I would've thought you were crazy. Expecting big things out of them this year.”
-Brian Goh, junior, psychology
“The biggest surprise of the NBA season is that I’m not playing in the NBA right now… Just kidding. The biggest surprise is LeBron James and the Lakers.”
-Kevin Bartolome, sophomore, nursing
