United Way of Greater Chattanooga is a foundation that gives back to the community by funding education programs for children, ensuring food security to help individuals meet their needs and increasing access to affordable and quality healthcare services.
United Way also has an initiative to help children learn to love reading. They provide neighborhood reading centers, Lexia programs, free books and Reading Eggs software. The organization’s ultimate goal is to help students stay on track for graduation.
Southern Adventist University President David Smith encourages students to participate in giving back.
“This year, though you will receive fewer emails from United Way campaigns, I encourage you to respond early to the request to participate,” Smith said, addressing the student body. “I want to emphasize the importance of Southern’s partnership with United Way.”
The official United Way of Greater Chattanooga website has a section for students and other community members to “get involved.” The organization is looking for people who are willing to volunteer their time or contribute with monetary donations.
In a section titled “Donate,” the website says: “Every student in our community deserves a chance at success. Help us provide the resources for education programs that prepare them for the future.”
There will be opportunities to learn more about how to contribute during the United Way annual campaign for 2018.
