When I’m going through something, giving God a chance isn’t always the first thing that comes to mind. I get lost in thought about how I can fix it, rather than how He can fix it. I often find myself saying, “I’ll figure it out” much more often than, “I’ll pray about it.” I grow impatient waiting for Him to answer my prayers and then become angry when they are answered but not the way I wanted them to be.
It’s in our nature to try and fix things that we don’t actually know how to fix. You know when you break something, and you try and fix it, but you actually don’t know how? Yet when you do, it looks like it’s still functional, but then it breaks the instant it’s used again?
Often in our lives we rely too much on ourselves and forget that we were designed to rely on Christ. Sometimes we don’t want to share our problem with God because we feel it’s too big or too far gone for Him to fix or for Him to even care. That is absolutely not true. All you have to do is call upon Him and He always answers (Mark 11:24).
Praying is becoming more and more underrated in this age of self. Praying is seen as not really doing much besides whispering words to the sky. Everything’s about how being your own person is all you need, and that’s the best way to live. In this society, needing help means you are weak and a burden.
Without God they might be weaknesses, but with God they are turned into the greatest of strengths. Fixing problems on your own is cool and all, but have you ever tried letting the God of the universe fix your problems?
When we do reach out to Him, we expect an answer immediately; and not only that, we expect a positive answer, the answer we want. We still want to be in control even when we ask God for help. We understand that God always knows what is best for us. Yet we lack faith in His promises to do good to us because He loves and cherishes us. When it ends up not how we imagined, we get mad at God.
God doesn’t make us wait because He wants us to hurt, but He wants us to grow and gain a beautiful relationship out of trusting and waiting on Him. Luke 18:27 says “the things that are impossible for people are possible with God.” With all the chances He gives us, we should be the ones to give Him a chance.
