Tokyo Fashion Week kicks off with killer street style

Kristen Vonnoh

From anime-inspired clothing to giant wide-leg pants, Tokyo street style has not failed to stun fashionistas around the globe. Vogue writer Steff Yotka said, “If you haven’t looked at Vogue’s Tokyo street style photographs, you’re not living. And let’s face it, the supersize ensembles are definitely a jolt compared with the minimalist, vintage-jeans-and-blazer stylings of the four major fashion capitals, New York, London, Milan and Paris.”

Tokyo’s street style is definitely the complete opposite of most fashion capitals, making it all the more fascinating and inspiring. This season is all about bright clothes, ultra-baggy pants and a touch of goth. From dark eye makeup to streaks of rebellious red hair, the Japanese aren’t shy when it comes to their fashion sense. Compared to their Western fashion counterparts, the Japanese fashion scene takes a much bolder stance.
