Senior biology major Matthew Melton lost his wallet over Thanksgiving break in Ontario, Canada, while visiting Niagara Falls with some former Southern students.
Melton had retraced his steps from his hotel to the restaurant they had stopped for lunch, with no sign of the wallet anywhere. He filed a police report and did not think anything would come from it, but three months later a United Kingdom (UK) airport security guard David Haigh, contacted Editorial Manager Janell Hillquist from Marketing and University relations. In his email, he mentioned that a man traveling into the UK was searched and Melton’s wallet was discovered among his possessions and confiscated.
Melton carried debit cards, his license, house keys, $130, and his Southern ID in his wallet -- all of which were returned except for $130
