Talge Hall resident Cameron Reel has found a way to turn his meal plan into a mosaic. This second floor Talgian made his room a little more colorful by stacking a collection of Peace Tea cans in his window. This not only keeps the sun out of his room, but also brightens the day of those who catch a glimpse as they walk into the men’s residence hall.
According to Reel, this is not the first time he has livened up a school’s atmosphere with his artistic touch. In high school, he made a Pac-Man art piece out of sticky notes with his friends.
One would assume that Reel must love Peace Tea to acquire a collection worth $75. They would be right. But not all flavors are made equal, according to this Peace Tea expert. His favorite flavors are Caddy Shack and Texas Style Sweet Tea. However, in order to get the wide array of colors necessary for the piece to have its rainbow-like effect, he must endure the bitter flavor of Snowberry.
This piece of artwork is also difficult to maintain. In fact, right before his interview with The Accent, Reel had to replace one of the cans that had fallen off. Its whereabouts are unknown, but luckily, the Caf, KR’s and the Village Market give him a seemingly endless supply of material to work with.
Reel also possesses some knowledge of architecture. “You have to fill the bottom cans with water,” Reel said, as he gave horror stories of the whole thing toppling over in its early stages.
“It started out as not wanting to throw away my Peace Tea cans,” Reel said, “but now it turned into this.”
Now that he is done with this project, he is looking for something new to focus his creative energy on. Nevertheless, he will always be remembered as the Picasso of Peace Tea.
